ISO 29001 specifies requirements for a quality management system for organizations supplying products and services to the petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industries in order to manage risks and opportunities across the supply chain.
Today, it can be observed that the oil and gas industry is one of the sectors exposed to the most severe risks. Therefore, quality management processes and qualified experts play an essential role in this field. To manage such issues throughout the petroleum supply chain, ISO cooperated with the international oil and gas industry to develop a sector-specific quality management system recognized in ISO/TS 29001, which is both necessary and appropriate.
Through cooperation between ISO and the international oil and gas industry, led by the American Petroleum Institute (API), the sector-specific quality management system document — ISO 29001:2020 certification — was developed. This international certification mainly focuses on the oil and gas supply chain.
It specifies quality management system requirements for the planning, establishment, implementation, and production of certain products and services for the petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industries.
ISO 29001:2020 certification is based on ISO 9001 and includes requirements related to error prevention, limitation of variations, and management of waste from service providers. These requirements are separately documented to ensure clarity and ease of understanding.
